No Toxins? No Problem! – Skincare for even the most problematic skin types
I’m sure you’ve all heard the hype that’s recently been floating around about Kiya Cosmetics 🥰 Never one to miss out on a good recommendation, or ignore all of the social media posts I’ve seen about them – I just had to check them out. My gosh am I glad that I did 🙌🏾
I’ve never really been someone who paid much attention to my skincare routine 🤷🏾♀️ I figured a decent cream for my sensitive skin, exercise and 2-3 litres of water a day was sufficient enough. Now we all know that scary fact about the skin being the largest organ in the human body 😲 But I figured that what I was doing was working, since apart from having dry skin which I seemed to have been born with, I’ve never really had any skin complaints.
Then Rona hit 🦠 and the time that I had on my hands literally went through the roof 🙇🏾♀️ My social life became a myth and I started exploring all the things that I regarded as taking up too much time previously ⌛ But more importantly my skin just wasn’t flourishing like it used to 😭 So I went in search of a new moisturiser that was natural and didn’t contain all the trash that was in my usual choice of cream.
Although a lot of the posts I had seen about Kiya Cosmetics were mainly about their hair products, I figured if their hair products led to all these people talking about them, then surely their skin care products were worth a try. I know, I know, I’m forever an optimist 😁 but I literally had nothing to lose 🤷🏾♀️ and hopefully everything to gain 🙏🏾
Ladies and gentlemen, I can officially say that I gained a whole lot 🥳🙌🏾 let’s start with the shea butter moisturiser I bought…… it arrived in a tub smaller than I had hoped for (I’m used to these big tubs of cream – you know exactly what I’m talking about 👀 the kind of tubs that last forever 😆) But after using the moisturiser just once, I was able to see that the tub was the right size. Purely because the shea butter is whipped so well, a little bit of it truly goes a long way 😉
The next thing that blew my mind about the moisturiser 🤯 was that after a week of using it, I noticed my stretch marks had started to blend into my skin tone 😮 Now I may be an optimist but I’m not delusional 🤣 so I really didn’t buy this moisturiser with the plan of it doing absolutely anything to my stretch marks. I was simply looking for a non toxic cream that I could use on my skin everyday. One that was effective in keeping dry skin at bay and also didn’t irritate me in any way since I’ve always had sensitive skin. This stretch mark miracle was just a fantastic bonus that I embraced wholeheartedly 😍😛
Don’t mistake me though, the moisturiser did exactly what I wanted it to do and was extremely long lasting. What do I mean? Well I’ve always had exceptionally dry skin, meaning I would often have to put cream on a few times a day just so my skin didn’t look all flaky 🤦🏾♀️ so I always had a tendency to lean towards heavy creams that would at least last most of the day before I had to cream my whole body again 😒 But this Shea Butter moisturiser from Kiya, worked so well that I could use it straight after a shower in the morning and then again after a shower at night 🤩 Literally life changing for me 💃🏾 I know you think I’m exaggerating with that last bit but if you don’t know the perils of having skin as dry as the Sahara, then you can’t possibly understand my woes 🤐😂
Now let me wind it back a bit to before I placed my order for the moisturiser. I saw that another skin care product that Kiya had to offer was a Shea Butter body scrub. Since I was trying to get the whole Kiya Cosmetics skincare experience, I figured I would add that to my order as well. Once again what did I have to lose? “NOTHING” I hear you shout at your screen 😆 you’re catching on 👊🏾
So I got the Shea Butter scrub and finally tried it out……. Yooooooooooo 🤯😮🤤🤩 the scrub is so good it brought out the ebonics I had hidden in the depths of my communicative part of my brain 😂 It literally felt like I was giving my skin a new layer whilst also massaging the most amazing shea butter (in an almost oil form) into my skin. It was like a 2 in 1 special. Get rid of any dead skin AND make my skin feel like butter at the same time. I stepped out of the shower after using it, and could actually see a difference 😮 My skin looked like it had been taken care of in a way that it only usually gets after being on holiday 😎🏖
Now I get that there may be some sceptics amongst you. And that is absolutely fine 😀 But what I will suggest if I may 🙏🏾 is that with Kiya Cosmetics great price point for their products, you could take the plunge like I did and try out one of their products to see if you love them as much as I do. You get to support a Black Owned business and treat your body right by trying out skincare (or haircare if you want to try their hair products, although I haven’t just yet) that contains no parabens and none of the nonsense toxins that our bodies have unfortunately become accustomed to. Sounds worth it to me 😉
